Spring/Summer 2025: What to Expect to Wear Next Year!
The runways have spoken, and the new styles coming in spring/summer 2025 are all about playing on opposites; loud and fun vs. classic and subtle. Fringe is making a dramatic return, swaying with confidence across everything from jackets to skirts, while an earth-inspired palette of warm browns, soft greens, and sunset tones brings a grounding element to the season's looks. Girly volume appears in puffed sleeves, exaggerated silhouettes, and ruffles, balancing playfulness with elegance. We are also seeing prints getting loud. Maximalist florals, vibrant and oversized, dominate the scene, as well as nautical stripes are back as a classic or being re-invented to create expressive designs.
For me, this upcoming year is all about trying something new. The industry is having more fun with fashion, we all know the tweens and teens on tiktok are having a blast, and so should we! Some of these trends aren’t what I would usually wear but let’s play a little dress up!
Statement Fringe
Seen at: Proenza Schouler, Louis Vuitton, and Missoni
Fringe made a powerful statement this season. Proenza Schouler showcased flowing, fringed skirts and dresses that moved gracefully with each step, while Louis Vuitton added long, fine fringes to dresses for an almost liquid effect paired with unstructured jackets featuring paintings by the French artist Laurent Grasso from his series Studies Into the Past. Missoni took a more dynamic approach, using fringe to add movement and accentuate the already bold pattern of the collection.
Regardless of your style, you can incorporate fringe into your outfit to add more movement and more playfulness to your wardrobe.
Girly Volume
Seen at: Giambattista Valli, Simone Rocha, Alaia
The Girly Volume trend is the name I'm giving to all the bubbles, ruffles, and voluminous silhouettes I'm seeing on the runway. Giambattista Valli used exaggerated shapes to give the collection a dreamy, couture-level elegance. Simone Rocha incorporated feminine puff sleeves, tiered skirts, and cascading ruffles, blending femininity with unexpected rough fabrics for a touch of edginess. At Alaia, the volume became architectural to bring this trend to new heights.
Nature-Inspired Palette
Seen at: Chloé, Stella McCartney, and Alberta Ferretti
Earthy tones and sun-kissed hues dominated the runways, Chloé opened up with sandy neutrals, terracotta, and soft olive greens. Stella McCartney has always incorporated eco-friendly materials which were enhanced by her use of rich browns. While Alberta Ferretti showcased flowing dresses in muted, earthy colors that reminds me of Roman attire. Maybe these aren’t your colors, but you can still incorporate them into your look if you like them. Focus on pants, shoes, and bags with these colors.
Maximalist Florals
Seen at: Rodarte, Dolce & Gabbana, and Carolina Herrera
Florals were anything but subtle on the runways. At Rodarte, florals came in oversized, exaggerated prints on dresses with puff sleeves and ruffles, embracing maximalism. Dolce & Gabbana added bold floral patterns on their glamorous silhouette bringing even more attention to her, while Carolina Herrera played with big floral, adding a twist to otherwise classic silhouettes. What I love about florals is that they can be either sweet and feminine or dark and dangerous, so no one has any excuse to not try it out.
Nautical Stripes
Seen at: Ralph Lauren, Balmain, and Prada
Nautical stripes, long a symbol of coastal chic, are being reinvented with bold statements and unexpected combinations. Ralph Lauren stays true to its preppy roots with classic white, and navy stripes, while Prada adds an eccentric twist, pairing disheveled stripes with fringe or leopard print for a rebellious edge. Balmain approaches the stripes with a luxury/bling twist, using pearls and chains for an over-the-top feel. Once simple, these stripes are now being transformed by designers into bold, artistic statements.
As we look ahead to Spring/Summer 2025, it’s clear that fashion is embracing both extremes, with playful maximalism and refined classics sharing the spotlight. From bold fringe and exaggerated volume to earthy hues and reimagined stripes, the trends offer something for everyone. So, whether you’re ready to try dramatic florals or add a nautical twist to your wardrobe, this season invites us all to step out of our comfort zones and have fun with fashion. Let’s dive into these trends and make the most of this stylish adventure - because fashion should always be a little fun and a lot personal!
