Everything I Loved From Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024

I know we just started talking about fall fashion, but it’s never too early to think about next summer, am I right? Especially since we just got a couple of summer-esque days in San Francisco, and as you certainly know, this is worth celebrating… (Am I changing 3 times a day to wear all my favorite summer clothes? Yes, I am!)

This fashion month was packed with headline-making moments, from Naomi shedding a tear as she closed off Sarah Burton’s last show at Alexander McQueen to Pamela Anderson’s no-makeup look at Isabel Marant that I still can’t stop thinking about. I also loved hearing her perspective on fashion and beauty in her refreshingly candid interview for Vogue.

But I do find that fashion week can be overwhelming and, especially these days, hard to digest. Do you feel like it’s unrelatable and distant from your everyday fashion choices? You’re not alone, sometimes it feels too much for me too.

Which is why you don’t need to be checking every blog and influencer instagram, because I’m giving you my fashion month rundown of everything actually worth knowing and a selection of favorite trends you should consider wearing.

Favorite Trends

Pastels

Red has been big this year, especially dark, deep cherry red, and let me say, I’m a big fan but I’m excited for some softer, muted shades. As I am a summer myself (referencing to my seasonal color palette. Not sure what I am talking about? Check out my blog post here!) I always welcome more options in softer colors.

Short Shorts

This has been the summer of the linen pants and long skirts, and who doesn’t love a comfortable summer. But I’m always here for a little change. Short shorts and miniskirts are in. Trends like this can be challenging for a lot of women who don’t feel comfortable in their bodies, but let me tell you, as a professional stylist, if you love it, wear it!

Sexy Sheerness

Continuing with this non-stop sexy trend I can’t wait for in 2024, sheer was everywhere this season. From Phillip Lim in New York to Saint Laurent in Paris, women of all shapes and sizes are owning their bodies. It doesn’t mean you have to wear a fully sheer dress, but how about trying a sheer top with a tank top underneath?

Fierce Suits

Women and suits now have a historied back and forth, from the boxy oversized male pieces to the sexy and sultry tight-fitting two pieces. This coming year, we’re taking it back to the 80’s working girl look. It’s feminine and powerful at the same time, and it’s just so fun! I am very excited to introduce this trend to some of my clients!

Remember that you don’t have to try every trend that comes out, but you can pick and choose a couple that fit your style archetype and play around with it.

My superlatives:

Must-watch show: Stella McCartney

3 words: Sustainable, Chic, Wearable. I’ll leave it at that.

Favorite newcomer show:

I’m going to have to go with Sabato de Sarno at Gucci. Probably one of the most talked about shows, both positively and negatively, but honestly, I loved Gucci going back to its early '90s era. While I loved Alessandro Michele’s tenure, it was a refreshing change.

Favorite Farewell show: I can’t pick one, so I’ll pick two incredible designers who are leaving a giant hole in the fashion industry. Sarah Burton leaving McQueen and Gabriella Hearst leaving Chloe. I’m excited for what they do next but in the meantime, they both presented show-stopping collections.

Best celebrity front row appearances:

Blake Lively at Michael Kors:

I can’t say NYFW was very memorable but I can’t stop thinking about Blake in her sparkly golden jumpsuit and curly hair.

Ryan Gosling at Gucci:

He’s Ken and he’s a ten!

The entire Fendi front row:

I don’t know who to look at.

I hope you enjoyed my little recap of Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024 and don’t worry, I’ll bring you a reminder next year before the spring/summer season! For now let’s get back to our regularly scheduled programming of fall fashion!
