Enjoying Halloween as an Adult

Growing up in France, Halloween wasn’t something I celebrated and I can’t say I was a huge fan of it when I first got here. It seemed like a kid’s thing: trick or treating, dressing up, scary movies. But over the years I’ve had a lot of fun doing some different Halloween activities. So if you’re not one to really get into the Halloween spirit, you’re not alone, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy at least one of these “spooky season” activities for adults.

Go to a Speakeasy

Speakeasy's are supposed to bring you back to a time of simultaneous glamor and debauchery. You are instantly transported to another time, which makes it the perfect place to have some fun this Halloween. Your costume: roaring 20s showgirl. The drinks: strong. All you have to do is work on your accent.

Host a Party

I know throwing a party can seem like a lot of work, but the fun thing about a Halloween party is that it’s supposed to be a little messy. You don’t have to worry about having the right china or creating the perfect playlist. You just need to head to your nearest store and grab everything you see from the Halloween aisle.

Watch an actually scary movie

If you’re someone who is scared easily, this may not apply to you. Most scary movies are really not my thing, to be honest. But this can be fun if you are up to it. So, you could go to the actual movies, or you could host a scary movie night at your place. Make it cozy, get a few snacks and have everyone vote ahead of time on what movie to watch so there is not a lot of back and forth when the day comes up.

Halloween Cocktails

Now I’ve saved the best for last: Halloween cocktails. It’s a fun activity to do with your friends and even more fun to drink. You will most likely make mistakes and it probably won’t look anything like the color is supposed to but that is half the fun after all. You could even combine this with the movie night and watch a scary movie after.

I’ve actually come to think that Halloween is much more fun for adults than it is for kids. Take this time of the year to act like a kid and have some fun! And if you like the holiday's candy part, why not buy yourself a bunch? Kids only go door to door asking strangers for candy because they can’t buy it themselves. ;)

Choose your own adventure this Halloween, I’ll be cuddling up to my dog for protection watching a scary movie with some blood red wine.
